A new build handover inspection is also known as a practical completion inspection. At Dedant Building and Pest Inspections, our qualified building inspectors can ensure that your new home is up to standard before you move in.
It is a huge milestone to reach the end of your build and it can be easy to get carried away with the excitement however there is an important step before you take possession of your new house.
The handover inspection is an opportunity to go through any minor issues with the building.
What is a handover inspection?
A new home is ready for handover when all of the building work is done and it is suitable for habitation. The house needs to be fully functional and ready to move into including whether proofing and having power and water connected.
The house can still have some minor outstanding items such as touch ups to the paint, however there cannot be any major outstanding items.
Handover is the point at which you make the final payment.
Your builder should tell you 2 to 3 weeks in advance of when they expect to do the handover.
Our highly trained building inspectors will undertake a thorough inspection of the property go over the property and note any aspects of construction that are not up to industry standard. All defects are noted in a report. The report is provided to the you and the builder for rectification. Our reports are easy to read with defects photographed and the correct trade responsible is identified. It is then the responsibility of the builder and the sub-contractors to rectify the defects on the report. If required, we can conduct a follow up inspection to check all of the issues have been rectified. We will then issue another report.
