Asbestos Inspection

Asbestos cannot be verified visually and needs to be sampled for accurate identification. For all of your Asbestos Testing in Brisbane, Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast, contact DedAnt. Samples of suspected materials need laboratory testing to confirm the presence of Asbestos.

One third of homes in Australia contain asbestos, and it was used widely until the 1980’s.  Asbestos inspections are necessary before any home renovations or maintenance work that could expose anyone to the material.  Asbestos can be found in many areas of the house, including walls, roof sheeting, guttering, fencing, carports and sheds.

Can you identify asbestos during a pre-purchase building and pest inspection?

Asbestos Identification is not part of the scope of a Pre-Purchase Inspection. Dedant offer a range of services in addition to identify the potential areas that have suspected asbestos containing materials and can sample suspected materials and send to the laboratory for accurate diagnostics.

How likely is it that my home contains asbestos?

If your home was built prior to 1985, it is highly likely that your home contains asbestos.  If you home was built between 1985 and 1990 it is somewhat likely that your home contains asbestos and if you home was built after 1990 it is unlikely.

I have asbestos in my house, what do I do?

Asbestos is not considered dangerous while it remains fully intact.  If the area is damaged, it becomes a health risk when fibres are released into the air and inhaled.  Breathing in asbestos can cause Asbestosis, Lung Cancer or Mesothelioma.   The risk of contacting these diseases is increased by the amount of exposure, the number of fibres inhaled and the amount of time somebody is exposed.  Symptoms usually do not appear for 20 – 30 years.
